Pears Scholars

The Pears Foundation funds 10 scholars each year from developing countries to study for Masters degrees in Public Health Plant Sciences or Nutritional Sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Situated in some of the most challenging terrain in the world, Israel has become a global success and innovator in the areas of public health and agriculture.

The Hebrew University’s one-year International Masters in Public Health (IMPH) programme teaches healthcare professionals from around the world not only how to respond to such problems as AIDS and poor nutrition, but also how to minimise their occurrence by creating a healthier world. Over the last 35 years the programme has attracted 600 students from 85 countries around the world — from the Palestinian Authority to Mongolia and Cameroon.

Plant Sciences and Nutritional Sciences are taught at the University’s hi-tech farm campus in Rehovot. The Pears Scholars study agricultural techniques, project management and a broad range of biology courses designed to give them the skills they need to become teachers, planners and policymakers.

Upon finishing their degree, the scholars are recruited or return to senior positions in their home countries, better equipped to improve the quality of life for millions of their fellow citizens.
