Afrikids
Afrikids works alongside local community organisations in isolated rural areas in Northern Ghana. The Pears Foundation supports Afrikids’ core costs both in the UK and in Ghana. We also fund several projects focussing on women and children, providing health, education, vocational training and support through a number of different projects:
‘Operation Fresh Start’
Combating child trafficking, we funded a pilot project in 2005 to repatriate street children to their homes and families. The project was focussed around vocational training and intensive support for both the children and their families, to create sustainable results. The success of the pilot has now led to support from the Big Lottery fund to increase the scope and scale of this project.
Women’s Business Skills and Development project
Women receive business & skills training, micro financing, literacy education, and ongoing monitoring and support.
Primary and Secondary education of 40 children and sponsorship of vocational training programmes for 20 former street boys and girls in Bolgatanga
The Next Generation Apprenticeship programme allows children to enrol in courses from welding to weaving and from engineering to electronics, all jobs which have a market in the area.
