Pears Scholars Graduation

September 15, 2010

Sixteen Pears Scholars from developing countries in Africa and Asia graduated in their Masters this month.

Eight scholars received their International Masters in Public Health from The Hebrew University-Hadassah while 8 others graduated from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s International M.Sc. Programme in Nutritional Sciences.

At each closing ceremony, the scholars talked about their experiences during the programme, their hopes for the future, and their gratitude to their families, their teachers and scholarship donors.

At the Hebrew University-Hadassah, a keynote address was given by Professor Dan Engelhard from Hadassah’s Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Pediatric AIDS Center.  While at the The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Mr. Henry Hanson-Hall, Ambassador to Israel from the Republic of Ghana, spoke about Israel’s position as a leader in Plant and Nutritional Sciences and expressed his appreciation for supporting these young scientists – the next generation of researchers in their countries.

Both events were characterised by warmth and good-will as people mixed and mingled, sat and ate, spoke and listened, sang and danced.

The Pears Scholars initiative contributes essential skills and builds lasting relationships between Israel and the developing world.
